Modern Rooftop Outdoor Kitchen Project in South Korea

Project Overview

Located on the rooftop terrace of a private residence in South Korea, this project was designed to transform an underutilized rooftop into a stylish and functional outdoor living space. What had been unused overhead space became a destination for daily life.

The homeowner envisioned a contemporary environment where family members could cook, dine, and relax while enjoying the open city views. Rather than installing standard outdoor products, the client wanted a fully customized solution that would maximize the available space and reflect a clean, modern aesthetic. Every square meter of the rooftop had to earn its place, and the customization brief covered everything from the layout of the cooking zone to the profile of a single counter edge — no detail was too small to specify.

To bring this vision to life, XIAOZHU delivered a tailored rooftop outdoor living solution featuring premium WPC decking, a customized stainless steel outdoor kitchen, and carefully selected outdoor furniture — all designed as one coordinated composition.

Client Requirements

One of the client's primary objectives was to make the rooftop feel like a natural extension of the indoor living space. Every element needed to be functional while maintaining a sophisticated and minimalist appearance.

A key requirement was the inclusion of an L-shaped bar counter connected directly to the outdoor kitchen, creating a comfortable gathering area where family and guests could interact while meals were being prepared.

The client also requested that the exposed corner of the bar counter feature a smooth curved profile instead of a conventional square edge. This subtle detail would soften the overall appearance while improving both safety and comfort during everyday use — a small design decision with visible impact on how the space feels.

In addition, the entire kitchen needed to feature customized cabinet finishes that complemented the surrounding architecture and premium countertop materials suitable for long-term outdoor use. Because the rooftop is exposed to sun, wind, and rain, the client's specifications also placed a premium on materials that could maintain their finish over the long term.

Our Solution

The project began with the installation of premium WPC decking across the rooftop terrace. The warm wood texture creates a welcoming atmosphere while providing excellent weather resistance and minimal maintenance, making it ideal for rooftop environments exposed to changing weather conditions throughout the year. The decking provides a stable, comfortable surface underfoot — the quiet foundation that the rest of the design stands on.

The outdoor kitchen was fully customized according to the client's requirements. A soft light gray cabinet finish was selected to match the contemporary architectural style of the residence, creating a clean and elegant visual effect that lets the kitchen sit comfortably within the wider design.

One of the most distinctive features of the project is the custom-designed L-shaped bar counter. Rather than using traditional sharp corners, the outer edge was carefully crafted with a smooth curved profile, creating a softer architectural language and a more comfortable seating experience for everyone gathered around it.

The countertop features premium white sintered stone with natural marble-inspired veining, combining refined aesthetics with exceptional resistance to heat, stains, and outdoor weather — so the elegant surface keeps its appearance in daily use.

To complete the functional layout, the kitchen integrates a built-in barbecue grill, sink, spacious storage cabinets, and ample preparation space, allowing the homeowner to enjoy convenient outdoor cooking throughout the year.

Modern outdoor seating was carefully positioned around the bar counter, creating a relaxed social area where cooking, conversation, and dining naturally come together.

Project Highlights

This project demonstrates how thoughtful customization can completely transform a rooftop into a sophisticated outdoor living destination.

Instead of relying on standard modular products, every key element was designed specifically for the client's lifestyle and spatial requirements. From the curved bar counter and customized cabinet color to the premium countertop materials and integrated kitchen layout, each detail contributes to a seamless balance between functionality and modern design.

The combination of WPC decking, customized outdoor kitchen, and outdoor furniture creates a cohesive environment that is both visually elegant and highly practical for everyday use.

Final Result

The completed rooftop garden is now much more than an outdoor cooking area — it has become a comfortable extension of the client's home.

The customized outdoor kitchen serves as the centerpiece of the space, while the L-shaped bar counter encourages interaction and creates a welcoming setting for family gatherings and entertaining guests. The warm texture of the WPC decking, the refined cabinetry, and the premium countertop materials all work together to create a modern outdoor environment that is both beautiful and durable.
